Having dry eyes can be uncomfortable and painful, and it can affect people of all ages. Dry eyes can also impact a person’s ability to see clearly, influencing their quality of life. Fortunately, at Envision Optical, we can provide you with the treatment you need to manage your dry eyes and enjoy clearer, more comfortable vision.

Suffering from Dry Eyes??

Dry eye is a condition that occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly. It can cause discomfort, irritation, and vision problems, and can be a chronic condition that requires ongoing treatment. Since 2015 we have been helping dry eye sufferers on the Gold Coast and Tweed heads with IPL therapy.

IPL Therapy for Dry Eyes

IPL, or intense pulsed light therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses pulses of light to stimulate the meibomian glands in the eyelids. These glands produce the oily layer of the tear film, which helps to prevent evaporation and keep the eyes moist. When the meibomian glands are not functioning properly, it can lead to evaporative dry eye.

How Does IPL Work?

IPL therapy works by targeting the blood vessels that are responsible for inflammation in the eyelids. This inflammation can cause damage to the meibomian glands and lead to dry eye symptoms. By reducing inflammation, IPL therapy can help to improve the function of the meibomian glands and reduce dry eye symptoms.

What does an IPL Session Involve?

During an IPL therapy session, a special device is used to deliver pulses of light to the eyelids and surrounding skin. The treatment is painless and takes only a few minutes. On average we have found 4-6 sessions are required for optimum success, with the sessions usually spaced a few weeks apart to achieve the best results.

And what results should I expect?

IPL therapy has been shown to be very effective for many patients with evaporative dry eyes. Studies have shown that it can improve the quality and quantity of the tear film, reduce symptoms such as dryness and irritation, and improve visual acuity. Patients may also experience a reduction in redness and inflammation in the eyes. Published scientific data indicates 85-90% of patients achieve improvement in their signs and symptoms.
